About Sasha Georgeson

LMFT, ATR, REAT

Offering In-Person and Telehealth (online) services

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), a registered Art Therapist (ATR) and Expressive Art Therapist (REAT). I offer psychotherapy, coaching and mediation for adults, children, teens, couples and families. I have 2 office locations, one in San Rafael near the Richmond bridge and the other in Corte Madera near Joann fabrics.

My Approach

My style is warm, collaborative, trauma informed and interactive. I will collaborate with you to find methods that will meet your individual needs. In my practice, I utilize a combination of strength- based models which work towards uncovering your unique gifts and strengths to support healing. My work is informed by evidence based treatment including Somatic therapies, Mindfulness, Art therapy, Attachment theory and Cognitive Behavioral therapy. Additionally I am trained in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (somatic therapy for trauma), and in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for (couples and individuals).

The practice of mindfulness has informed my work. I spent many years practicing meditation in different parts of the world. It changed who I was and my life in such a positive and profound way and it has informed my practice. I integrate mindfulness into my work as a way to strengthen your relationship to yourself and others. I would describe mindfulness as the practice of increasing awareness of what one is experiencing in the moment. Mindfulness practice has been found to reduce symptoms of anxiety and PTSD, and increase qualities such as self- love and self-compassion.

Creative expression also changed my life and informed my work.  I remember engaging in creative plays, such as making art or playing with toy characters’ at a young age and feeling alive, focused, and happy. When I created art or built things as a child, I felt powerful because I was able to make new objects that came from my imagination. The practice of creative expression in therapy works in a similar way: it supports individuals at any age in discovering who they are, and allows for someone to feel a sense of  power from forming new perspectives. Creativity offers an indirect way to approach challenges and  it helps someone gain a sense of power over life’s challenges. In a session, I use creative expression in an organic way, it can be integrated into discussions, or it can involve artistic expression such as role play, drawing, movement etc..

Experience

I have worked with children and adolescents in a wide range of clinical settings. I have worked in schools that specialize in treating trauma, medical clinics, and residential treatment centers for adolescents with dual diagnoses. I currently work at Paradigm Treatment Center providing art therapy for adolescents and young adults. I specialize in working with adults and children who have experienced various forms of trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and have worked extensively with survivors of sexual trauma. In addition to psychotherapy services, I have worked as a mediator for post permanency adoption since 2018, supporting families through meaningful life transitions.

Education

I received my Master’s degree in Marriage Family Therapy with an emphasis in Art Therapy from Notre Dame University in Belmont (2015).  I also received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Art Institute of San Francisco with a focus on painting and photography,
